sailing the world, sharing data with elementary school students

Apprenticeshop talk with Hannah Gray: World voyaging

Event has passed

ROCKLAND — In 2004, having never sailed out of sight of land, Hannah Gray accepted a position as the mate aboard a 43' Nautor ketch. The mission was to spend the next three years sailing around the world, collecting stories to share with the elementary school classrooms that were to follow the voyage.

Gray will share her experiences Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 6 p.m., at The Apprenticeshop, in Rockland.

Onboard, the crew created, and starred in, literacy curriculum focusing on the science and social studies of the places they visited. Meanwhile, they were also learning the skills needed for blue water sailing. Over 20,000 nautical miles and 25 countries later, Gray stepped off the boat, ready to embark on her newfound career as a professional mariner.

There is a suggested donation of $10 for entrance to the lecture.
