BELFAST — The last Belfast Summer Night of the season is upon us, Thursday, August 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Steamboat Landing Park, in Belfast.
The evening will begin with Alyssa Kelly. Alyssa Kelly has been writing and performing original tunes for 25 years. Her Americana sound is grounded in poetic lyrics “and stop-what-you’re-doing-and-listen vocals,” said Summer Nights, in a news release. She’s opened for Ellis Paul and The Mallet Brothers Band, and her influences include Kathleen Edwards and Willie Nelson.
“A bona fide luddite, she does not have a social media presence; you’ll just have to come see her play live,” said Summer Nights.
Around 6 p.m., Leaky Boot Jug Band will take the stage. The Leaky Boot Jug band was started in 2011 and continues to base itself in and around the Midcoast town of Belfast. Influences come from jug bands of the early 20th century as well as the resurgence of folk, rock, country music in the 1960s. Old-time, blues, as well as more current Americana covers round out their ever-changing repertoire. A smattering of original material enhances a typical set.
With six members, the band’s sound is always dynamic. Instrumentation includes percussion, mandolin, bass, fiddle, banjo, harmonica, guitars and rich harmony vocals combine to deliver a full sound with lots of energy. Leaky Boot Jug Band’s music is danceable and often elicits hoots and howls from audiences, according to the release.
Concert is free, though donations will be accepted in the hat. Please no dogs in the concert area.
