ROCKPORT — Summer is here and the black and white Belted Galloways are grazing the green pastures at Aldermere Farm in Rockport. For those who would like to learn about the farm, Maine Coast Heritage Trust offers the visitor center and Friday farm tours for the season.

The visitor center, located near the farmhouse at 20 Russell Ave in Rockport, houses a gift shop/beef market staffed by knowledgeable and friendly volunteers who can share the 200-year history of the farm, and orient visitors to its trails and direct them to sites where they can view Aldermere's ionic Belted Galloway herd.

Sales from the store support the agricultural programming at the farm. Hours of operation are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Friday, and 10 am to 1 p.m. Saturday, July through September.

Visitors may take a free, behind-the-scenes tour of Aldermere Farm at 10 a.m. every Friday, July through August (excluding August 3). Tours start at the Aldermere farmhouse, 20 Russell Ave, Rockport.

Anyone interested in volunteering at Visitor Center, may contact Joelle Albury at jalbury@mcht.org, 207-236-2739. Aldermere Farm is a preserve of Maine Coast Heritage Trust, a statewide land trust.
