ROCKLAND — Richard King sails back into Rockland to discuss his new book, Ahab’s Rolling Sea: A Natural History of Moby-Dick, Friday, Dec. 13, at 6:30 p.m., at Maine Coastal Islands NWR Visitor Center, in Rockland.
“This is a truly interdisciplinary, watery guide to both the novel and our changing perception of the ocean: from Melville’s pre-Origin of Species nineteenth century, up to today’s climate crisis, in which we now read Ahab as Big Oil and Ishmael as a climate refugee,” said the Visitor Center, in a news release.
Ahab’s Rolling Sea has been lauded in the journal Science and in American Scholar, according to the Center.
As he’s done with his previous visits to Rockland, King creates an original illustration in each book.
