Adas Yoshuron to host Chanukah celebration at Rockport Opera House
ROCKPORT — Everyone is welcome to join Adas Yoshuron Synagogue at the Rockport Opera House on Sunday, December 2 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for a community Chanukah celebration. This party is open to all and will be the major public celebration of Chanukah bringing together people from communities throughout the Midcoast region.
Musicians Lisa Mayer and Sruli Dresdner will perform live traditional Jewish music throughout the evening, lead guests in time-honored Chanukah songs, and teach Israeli dancing. There will be a community menorah lighting ceremony. Traditional Chanukah foods will be served, including potato latkes, and international dishes made by the Food in Jewish Culture group. Chanukah crafts for children will be offered.
Adas Yoshuron is pleased to be sharing this Jewish holiday full of history, tradition, food and music with the community. The synagogue is reaching out to help build better understanding, stronger relationships, and celebrate diversity in mid-coast Maine.
“After the recent tragedy in Pittsburgh, we feel it is very important for Jewish people to be able to connect at a happy event, as well as to give the community an opportunity to show support and learn about Jewish culture.” The synagogue stated in a news release announcing the Chanukah event.
Cost for the event is $10/suggested donation; kids 12 and under are admitted free. The cost for Adas Yoshuron members $8.
