Mon, 06/10/2019 - 4:45pm

ROCKPORT — A run-walk 5K race will be held this month to benefit the construction of the new Rockport Library.

The event will start at the Rockport Opera House on Sunday, June 23 at 9 a.m., with registration occurring at 8 a.m.

All funds raised from this event go to support the construction of the new Rockport Public Library.

More than just a building that holds books, the new Rockport Public Library will be the community’s gathering and learning center, a press release noted. The library will offer access to technology, digital resources, and meeting spaces, as well as print and electronic books, the release noted, with an anticipated opening of late summer 2020.

The 5K (3.1 mile) starts in beautiful Rockport village and travels along the coast offering fantastic ocean views.

Starting at the Rockport Opera House, the race takes you down Beauchamp Point and ends at Rockport Harbor Marine Park, where water and snacks will be provided. The harbor is a short walk from the start of the race.

This event is open to runners and walkers of all ages and skills. Strollers are allowed, but be mindful of traffic as most of the race does not have a sidewalk.

Though registration will be offered the morning of the event, you can register ahead of time and only need to allow time to obtain your competitor number on the day of the race.

Cost is $20 for advanced registration and $25 on the day of the race. Kids 18 and under can register for $10.

Advanced registration is available at the library or runsignup.com/Race/ME/Rockport/RockportPublicLibraryRunWalk5k. Advanced registration ends on Friday, June 21.

If you have any questions please contact the library at 236-3642 or rpl@rockport.lib.me.us.
