1933 Packard display, ‘The Sting’ film, raffle benefit Rockland District Nursing Association
ROCKLAND — The Rockland District Nursing Association and The Strand Theatre present a screening of The Sting, Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
Doors open at 6 p.m. with Midcoast pianist Sean Fleming performing Ragtime. Donations will be accepted at the door. The suggested donation is $10.
First Advisors, A Division of First National Bank, is again sponsoring this event, in support of RDNA’s long-standing dedication to making the community a better place to live, according to a news release.
The Sting became one of the biggest hits of the early '70s, picking up seven Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Adapted Score for Marvin Hamlisch's unforgettable setting of Scott Joplin's ragtime music.
Set in 1936, Robert Redford and Paul Newman team up to lead an impressive array of con men on a “sting” avenging the death of their friend. The twists and surprises that follow are too complex to relate in detail -- suffice to say that you can't cheat an honest man and that you shouldn't accept everything at face value.
This year’s event will showcase the Owls Head Transportation Museum’s 1933 Packard convertible sedan in front of the Strand from 3 to 7 p.m., weather permitting.
Start the evening with a photo with the car, enjoy a Rockland DQ dilly bar (while supplies last), and get into the spirit of the 1930s with the Rock Coast Rollers.
Raffle tickets will be on sale, with the winner drawn prior to the start of the movie. The winner must be in attendance.
All proceeds will support RDNA non-acute, in-home nursing and community health services. RDNA nurses annually visit close to 200 residents, predominantly seniors, living independently in Rockland, Thomaston, South Thomaston, Owls Head, St. George, Cushing, Union and Warren.
Only through the generosity of this community has RDNA, for 89 years, continuously been able to focus on serving neighbors who otherwise may not have access to care, according to the release.
