On July 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Camden-Rockport Historical Society will host The Troops at Camden for a Revolutionary War Encampment.
This free, family-friendly event is an opportunity for the public to learn about the soldiers stationed in the area during the American Revolution. The event will also offer a chance for visitors to learn about 18th century daily living through demonstrations and participatory activities.
The interpretive group will discuss the military history of the site, perform drills and musket firing, and provide visitors with an up-close look at the everyday clothing and supplies of a soldier.
The public will also be able to try out a number of games from the 18th century, learn about campfire cooking from the period (samples included), and observe traditional craft demonstrations.
This event is part of a series of encampments that will be happening one Saturday a month, through October, on the grounds of the Historical Society’s 1770’s homestead. The homestead entrance is located on Route 1, adjacent to Hannaford in Rockport.
