Rockport, ME—This February, Midcoast Recreation Center (MRC) is pleased to be able to begin offering two new fitness classes for its community: Barre Fitness and Makko Ho Stretching.

Barre, a fitness program inspired by the postures of ballet, yoga, and Pilates, combines strength training and cardio into your workout to burn fat and build muscle at the same time.  Using isometric strength training and high reps of small range motions movements, Barre classes can improve posture, define muscles, increase flexibility, reduce stress, and help with weight loss. Barre is even a safe program for pregnant women, as the exercises are not high impact and may help with balance and stability. These classes, led by Kaitlyn Crowley, will be held at MRC on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and cost either $7 per day or $60 for a month.

Makko Ho Stretching is a simple 6 stretch sequence that focuses on the energy inside your body, namely the meridian lines. These stretches can help diagnose which meridian lines need help and can improve organ function and energize and tone the energy pathways in the body. Makko Ho teaches you how to generate energy and balance your body, mind, and spirit by stimulating the meridian energy lines. Using the 6 stretch technique, you can learn and improve your understanding of you body. Led by Jenni Lyn Cooper, these classes will be held Monday and Wednesday, and cost either $7 for the class of $45 for a month.
