Trash Mandala Project Opening

The light is changing and it’s getting dark earlier.  Jim is fiddling with the trash in this photo, he is able to envision the completed mandala.  All 3 Trash Mandalas have a glove in them, gloves are a form of trash easily found on Maine beaches.  They form the center of the Mandalas and have this cool tentacle quality.

The goal of the project is to create awareness about ocean pollution and create conversations about possible solutions.  Mandala #1 is beach trash found on Gotts Island, #2 is ocean trash from Monroe Island and our third Mandala is the litter found along the shore of the Rockland dog park- it has the most trash by far both commercial fishing trash but also lots and lots of single use food and drink containers.

The opening is Friday night and is part of Rockland’s First Friday Art Walk.  We’re upstairs at 407 Main St. The Art Walk is from 5-8.
