A Time to Reset – Are we living in Fear or walking in Faith?

During this time of isolation, we have time for self-reflection. One reason why I mention this is because many Christians are operating out of fear rather than faith. Fear paralyzes a person while faith releases the hand of God to work on our behalf.

True faith is placed in a person, the Lord Jesus Christ. As it is written Blessed is the man who trusts is in the LORD, and whose hope is the LORD "(Jeremiah 17:7).

Where are our trust and our hope? If our faith is in our Church life rather in Christ who is our life, our finances, rituals, and traditions, ministers and ministries, we have displaced faith for that which has no foundation. Christ is our rock and our foundation, all else is sinking sand. When our faith rests in Christ, our being is filled with His peace with fullness of joy. As we dwell in the secret place of the Most High, His Spirit comforts us as we rest in the arms of His love.

We are not alone. From the joy of His fellowship, we have the confidence that He will never leave us nor forsake us. As we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us. It is from the place of intimacy as we walk in the light of His presence, that God reveals His purpose, that which He is doing and His truth that enlightens our heart with understanding. Even during great darkness, confusion, and chaos, Jesus is still Lord who sits upon the throne.

We can thus proclaim in every trial and tribulation, every circumstantial and situation, “All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28).

 A Time To Reset

There are times when we need a Holy Spirit reset. Using a computer as a metaphor, I monthly reset my computer. A reset is used to refresh and restore the computer's operating system. Unless this is done, eventually I will have to deal with a sluggish operating system plaque with errors that consumes my time and hinders my effectiveness to accomplish a task.

God is now resetting our lives. Why? So that we can walk in newness of life. God is preparing us for a new era. In preparation, we need to be purged of the old. Anything that hinders our relationship with Jesus has to go. We cannot accomplish our task as God has ordained if our operating system is plagued with fear, hopelessness, and uncertainty.

It’s time to reset our hearts to be filled with God’s love. For our minds to be cleansed of thoughts that pollute the streams where living waters are to flow. A time to be filled with Lord’s peace and joy, a time to be renewed and refreshed.  A time to reset our lives that we may function as God has designed us as Spirit-filled, faith believing, children of God.

I challenge you to read Psalms 91 each day for 10 days. Soon, In the midst of it all, you will rise with newfound faith to declare, “HE IS LORD OF ALL!”

In His amazing grace - Roy Roden
