Public Supper at John Street United Methodist Church October 6

Event has passed

Start with the Beans, Wrap up with Pie.  Outside temperatures may be dropping, but the October 6 monthly public supper at John Street United Methodist Church, 98 John Street, Camden, is sure to warm us with its home-baked beans and bubbly casserole dishes.  Located in a wooded setting across from the P.A.W.S. animal shelter, the church is convenient to down town, yet offers a retreat from the bustle and excitement of the harbor area.  John Street is located on the north side of the Subway Shop.

Slices of pie are arrayed on a long table as people enter the fellowship hall.  Along the way, they select their favorite of the fruit, nut, pudding or mince pies and carry it to a place at a table, where some dig right in to dessert first.  Then the servers begin delivering the main course, starting with beans and ham.  Next come the leafy, crunchy, potato, fruit and jelled salads to accompany the homemade hot casseroles, clam and corn being among the most popular, along with scalloped potatoes, macaroni and cheese, American chop suey, chicken and rice, sliced hotdogs in spicy sauce.  Serving is “all you can eat” family style.

If several folks want to sit together, one person may come early to purchase tickets for the party and hold seats at the “reserved seating only table.”

Serving starts at 5:30 following an amusing story and the blessing.

Come; bring a friend, a neighbor or the whole family. Cost is $9 for adults, $5 for children under age 13.
