Pro Rental Closed Permanently, Equipment to be Sold in Online Auction
After 20 years, Pro Rental, the area’s only full-service equipment rental business, has closed permanently, according to owner Tom Donegan. Mr. Donegan, originally of Reading, Massachusetts, moved to the Mid Coast as a sales rep for an equipment manufacturer. While he said he doesn’t plan to retire, he is getting out of the equipment rental business, citing Covid-19 and difficulty hiring staff as the reasons for the closure.
Pro Rental offered a wide array of equipment for rent, both for construction and property management. The company leased portable generators, pumps, jackhammers, concrete equipment, staging, drywall equipment, and fans, as well as motorized equipment such as skidsteer bobcats, mini excavators, and tractors and attachments.
For Camden/Rockport/Rockland area businesses and do-it-yourselfers, the closure means the loss of an important local resource. Following Pro-Rental’s closure, the nearest full service rental businesses are Kennebec Equipment in Woolwich and Eagle Rental in Waterville. Limited selection rentals are offered by some hardware stores and specialist rental companies.
Mr. Donegan has hired Keenan Auction Company of South Portland to sell the company’s inventory of equipment. The auction items will be listed online for two weeks from Sunday, August 13th to Monday, September 28th. There will be an in-person preview on Monday, September 21st from 10 am to 12 pm at 440 West St, RT. 90 in Rockport.
Thank you to Tom Donegan, Sean Donegan, and other team members at Pro Rental for their years of service to local businesses and property owners, and for their contributions to the local economy.
