Midcoast Interact raises awareness for polio
Midcoast Interact recently hosted a Purple Pinkie campaign at Camden Hills Regional High School. For a small donation, students and staff had their pinkie painted purple in recognition of Rotary’s efforts to eradicate Polio. The group raised $50 that will become $300 with matching funds from District 7790 and the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation.
A crippling and often fatal disease, polio is a virus often spread through contaminated water. Rotary’s efforts to eradicate polio since 1979 have produced a 99.9% reduction in the disease worldwide. Today, only Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan remain affected. A purple stamp on the pinkie indicates that one has been vaccinated.
Midcoast Interact, sponsored by West Bay Rotary and Camden Rotary, promotes leadership in young adults and meets Mondays from 2:45 - 3:00 pm in the library at Camden Hills Regional High School. New members are welcome at any time. For more information contact Heidi Karod at email@example.com, Joan LeMole at firstname.lastname@example.org, or Chris Richmond at email@example.com.
