Meet the New Student Services Coordinator at URock

Fri, 05/20/2022 - 12:00pm

Rockland –Kathryn (Katie) Ebert has begun serving as the new Student Services Coordinator at the UMA Rockland Center.  Katie holds a Master’s degree in Education Leadership and Policy from Portland State University and comes to UMA Rockland with over ten years’ experience advising college students.  Most recently she served as a counselor with UMA’s Early College program for high school students.

For over 40 years the UMA Rockland Center (UROCK) has served the people of midcoast Maine, graduating thousands of local students. The center provides local access to more than 50 university degree and certificate programs. Over 500 students each year are able to take advantage of the small classes, personalized support services, tutoring in math and writing, and local scholarships. Through the UMA Rockland Center, students can access hundreds of courses that are taught each semester by faculty on-site, online, and via videoconferencing.

Katie is excited to carry on the tradition of meeting the needs of midcoast students, making post-secondary education accessible, and supporting a community where students of all ages and backgrounds succeed. “What I love about this position is that I get to help students in my own community. It is very rewarding to be able to work with students who are at different points in their educational journey: students who are considering going to college for the first time, students who started college--life happened and now they want to come back and finish their degree, and students who have a degree but are looking to switch careers and now need a different degree. I love that I get to be the person who hears their story, gets them started at URock, provides academic support and words of encouragement along the way, and then stands proudly in the crowd cheering for them at graduation."
