Deborah Meehan will step down from her position as Director of UMA Rockland on July 31.  Meehan took on that role in 2006 when the Center was located at the Thomaston Academy building. Since then the Center moved to the Breakwater Building in Rockland, increased enrollment and visibility and started a Prison Education Partnership with Maine’s Department of Corrections.

“It has been a wonderful journey involving lots of terrific people,” said Meehan.

UMA Rockland, affectionately known as URock, has the highest enrollment of any university off-campus center, enrolling approximately 500 students each fall and spring and another 230 students in the summer. Up to 50 local high school students also participate in Early College programming each term.  The Center serves students of all ages by offering local access to over 60 university degree and certificate programs in the mid-coast and supporting them with robust student services like admissions, academic advising, financial aid, and career development. Over 500 courses are offered each semester through a mix of instructional methods including in-person, interactive television, web conferencing and online instruction.

“Serving as the Director of the UMA Rockland Center has been an incredibly rewarding experience,” Meehan said.  “Every day at URock is exciting and different and includes working with an amazing team of staff and faculty who believe in UMA’s mission of access to a quality, affordable college education.” She added, “The students are forever inspiring.”

The University of Maine at Augusta has opened its search to hire a new Director for the Rockland Center. Information and a link to apply for the position may be found here. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until June 6.
