An inspiring bike-centric community film event is happening at The Waldo Theatre on Sunday, September 25th. The award winning film MOTHERLOAD, a crowdsourced documentary in which the cargo bicycle becomes a vehicle for exploring motherhood in this digital age of climate change, will be the mainstay of an afternoon of bikes and community. At 2pm, Pedego Electric Bikes of Boothbay Harbor will be hosting electric bike demos in the back parking lot of The Waldo and there will be information available from various bicycle advocacy and conservation organizations. The film will screen at 3pm followed by a thought provoking presentation by Dave Cohen, who is featured in the film.

The film MOTHERLOAD follows director and new mother Liz Canning on her quest to understand the increasing tension between modern life and our hunter-gatherer DNA, and how cargo bikes offer a solution. As Liz meets the people behind this push to replace cars with purpose-built bikes, she learns about the history and potential future of the bicycle as the “ultimate social revolutionizer.”

Following the film, Dave Cohen, who is a Transportation Expert and Visionary, will share his presentation, "The Global Electric Cargo Bike Revolution - How families, households & businesses are ditching the car and transforming communities” . We will explore the storied past of the cargo bike right up to the present-day stunning innovative designs and e-assist technologies enabling us to move on bikes like never before. We’ll also consider why the e-cargo bike may be so much more than just a technological revolution, but perhaps an opportunity for us to embrace a far more committed and embodied relationship to the ecological and social fabric we all inhabit. The electric cargo bike is rapidly on the rise and emerging globally as a key transportation solution. With this in mind, there is a growing interest in the fascinating history and developmental arc of the cargo bike from its earliest inception in the 1880's to its striking evolution to date.

The Waldo is hosting the MOTHERLOAD screening and presentation in partnership with Pedego Electric Bikes of Boothbay Harbor and with the generous support of Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust, Midcoast Conservancy, Bath Cycle and Ski, The Bike Man of Round Pond and First National Bank Wealth Management. Adult tickets are $10, Youth tickets are $5. For tickets online, go to: https://waldotheatreinc.thundertix.com/events/203213. Tickets will also be available at the door starting at 2:00pm.
