The public is invited to attend a free Cardboard Collage Workshop for children as part of the Winterfest Open House at Children’s Montessori School on Saturday, February 3rd from 10 a.m.-noon. Using simple materials including paper and toilet paper rolls, magazines, newspaper, paper, glue and scissors children can create fun, whimsical and easy to recycled art.  Collage encourages wonderful creativity with the freedom to do whatever inspires the artist. Our Cardboard Collage Workshop is designed to use readily available material that is easy to recycle when the time comes to “retire” the artwork.

There will be lots of materials available but attendees can feel free to bring in their own cardboard to be ART before it goes into the recycle bin. This project does require some measuring, cutting and gluing so younger hands might need help. Join us in the Art Room along with elementary teachers any time between 10 and 12 and help create!

Claire Weinberg of Dulse & Rugosa will be leading the workshop.  “One of my 2018 goals both personally and for our business is to increase awareness about practical and easy steps for your Zero Waste journey.  When I first started planning the workshop I had visions of using everything in the recycle bins.  I soon realized that mixing cardboard with plastic would make the ART not easy to recycle.  In this workshop everything is paper or cardboard.  When I was creating with the CHMS elementary students we had lots of good conversations about why we weren’t using google eyes, feathers, buttons, etc.  The end results was great creativity.”

In addition, the public invited for tours and refreshments, and teachers will be present in classrooms with hands-on activities.
