Dog Behavior & Positive Training Techniques

Event has passed

On Saturday November 10th, Don Hanson from The Green Acres Kennel Shop and The Woof Meow Show will present a seminar entitled Understanding Dog Behavior, How Dogs Learn, and the Best Ways to Train Them at PAWS Animal Adoption Center in Camden, ME.

Hanson developed this seminar in response to a report by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) that indicated the most common reason people take their dog to their veterinarian, other than for an animal wellness exam, is due to behavioral problems. The report stated that these behavioral problems are often due to the use of aversive training techniques (shock, prong, and choke collars and more) and “Mistaken or misinformed beliefs…..” about canine behavior, perpetuated by some breeders, rescues, pet parents, and even pet care professionals. The seminar will address the following questions; What are the myths and facts about canine behavior?, How do dogs learn?, What is the best way to train a dog?, and How do dogs communicate?

Free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available.

This event is brought to you by the PAWS Outreach Committee as part of the Second Saturday Humane Education series.
