Dine for Hope on October 24th!

Event has passed

New Hope for Women will hold a dinner on Thursday, October 24th at 6:00 p.m. as a wrap up to Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM).  The dinner will be offered at Penobscot Language School, 28 Gay Street in Rockland and will feature a brief talk by New Hope’s Education and Outreach Director, Kelly O’Connor, followed by a meal of chicken marsala (or vegetarian option), salad, desert and beverage.  Ms. O’Connor will provide an overview of New Hope for Women's services, primarily focusing on the agency’s expanding and evolving violence prevention program.  This will include New Hope's more recent shift toward incorporating a social change advocacy model into all levels of its work.

DVAM first began in 1981 as a way to connect battered women’s advocates across the country.  It is during October that there is an opportunity to deepen one’s understanding of the complexities involved in domestic violence and intimate partner violence. During DVAM, New Hope for Women will engage in a number of activities that invite communities to demonstrate a commitment to ending domestic violence.  This includes the Glow Purple Campaign during which businesses may choose to display purple lights, posters and ribbons, and Empty Place at the Table, a powerful, physical memorial placed at quiet, contemplative locations such as libraries and churches and dedicated to remembering victims in New Hope’s four-county catchment area who were murdered by their partners in acts of domestic violence homicide.

FOR REQUIRED RESERVATIONS: New Hope for Women at 594-1084 x113 or by mailing a check to New Hope for Women, P.O. Box A, Rockland, Maine 04841. Please include email address for confirmation and specify chicken marsala or vegetarian for each attendee.
