Camden Opera House Presents Micromassé and Sara Hallie Richardson

Event has passed

Saturday, April 27, 7:30 pm

Micromassé is a trio of accomplished musicians offering a fresh new sound that is nostalgically analog, worldly, and explosively modern. All at the same time! Combining the classic sound of the Hammond Organ with dynamic electric guitar and infectious drums; Micromassé strives to bring instrumental music to new frontiers while maintaining a positive groove and a fun vibe. Micromassé is Peter Dugas on Hammond organ, guitarist Max Cantlin, and drummer Chris Sweet. These guys have a thing for the sound that comes out of the organ in bands like Santana. When they started listening to organ trios led by the likes of Jimmy Smith and Joey DeFrancesco, the influence was immediate and huge. Micromassé puts its stamp on this sound by adding pop, Afrobeat, and Latin grooves. Micromassé has garnered superlative reviews to their recordings and concerts, and have shared the stage with Charlie Hunter, Bombino, the Fogcutters and Moon Hootch.

Joining Micromassé for this MaineMadeMusic double bill is their frequent collaborator; Portland based singer/songwriter, Sara Hallie Richardson. With influences such as Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush, and Bjork, Richardson's songs are known for dense vocal harmonies and soaring melodies as well as combining synthetic and acoustic orchestral sounds. Recently, Sara has come together with the Amaratos Quartet, a Portland-based string quartet. Amaratos Quartet is a powerhouse in their own right, having performed at The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon twice, on Sofar Sounds Maine on their own as a quartet, and again as guests of artist Sara Hallie Richardson; at the TEDxDirigo Mavericks and Misfits; on The Cold River Radio Show; at The Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center; and also regularly throughout Maine and the greater Portland area.
