Back on the Road to Support Trekkers - A Great Thomaston Trek 5K Fundraiser

Thu, 06/10/2021 - 3:15pm

THOMASTON —This Sunday, 123 people got “Back on the Support Trekkers,” running or walking the race, which was held both virtually and in-person. It was the largest race on record for Thomaston Trek and many participants remarked on how great it was to be together again. Virtual racers were able to join in at the start, as Trekkers livestreamed announcements made by Executive Director Amie Hutchison and racing start on the Trekkers Facebook page. It quickly turned into one of the hottest days of the year to date, but the crowd was cheerful, as people gathered and caught up with one another under the shade trees by the parking lot.

Once the race was started, in-person racers took to the historic streets of Thomaston, starting and finishing at the Thomaston Academy Building. Two barefoot runners bravely enduring the hot pavement and all were cheered on by the volunteers who held up hand-drawn posters to encourage racers. Water stations were provided during the race and at the end. Thomaston’s own Flipside Coffee generously donated 150 muffins and coffee, which racers enjoyed as they gathered to hear announcements and prizes. Top finishers received buttons and gift cards to Maine Sport Outfitters (who also generously donated to support the race.)
