Award-winning Violinist Sophie Davis to Join Ashwood Waldorf School Faculty

Award-winning violinist Sophie Davis will join Ashwood Waldorf School's faculty in mid October. Davis, a native of Waldoboro, Maine, says that she "is honored and excited to join Ashwood's creative and welcoming community." During the interview process, faculty and students were impressed with Davis's dedication and enthusiasm to teaching music in a way that nurtures a holistic love of music and the arts. Ashwood students and faculty are excited to begin working with this talented musician.

Davis holds a B.M. in violin performance and a B.A. in environmental studies from Oberlin College and Conservatory. With her sister Josie, she was a featured performer on the National Public Radio program, "From the Top". Davis has performed at the Kennedy Center, Chicago’s Symphony Hall, the Monte Music Festival in India, and with the Jordan National Orchestra (JOrchestra) in Amman, Jordan. In 2017, she was awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Research Grant to spend nine months in Samoa where she explored the ways in which the arts can raise awareness of climate change. In addition to pursuing research, Davis taught and performed with the National Orchestra of Samoa. Recent awards include:  the Louis and Annette Kaufman Prize in Violin (2017) and the Pi Kappa Lambda Prize for Musicianship (2017).Located on Park Street in Rockport, the Ashwood Waldorf School is an independent private school serving students in nursery through eighth grade.
