Ashwood Waldorf School Summer Forest Camp: What the Woods Can Tell Me

Event has passed

Calling all adventurers, ages five to seven! Registration is now open for Ashwood’s Forest Camp: What the Woods Can Tell Me. The camp is open to children from age 5 through 7 and will take place Monday through Friday, August 10–14, 9–noon. After a spring of being apart, Ashwood is looking forward to welcoming students back to our campus! The wellbeing of our campers and staff is a priority, and we will be adhering to health and safety procedures with care. Campers will learn new skills, explore our 30 acres of forest and field, and build lasting friendships.

Imagine a week of making forts and fairy houses, water play, wet felting, building with mud and straw, exploring, natural plant dying, playing games, pretending, and more—all outside in our play spaces, by the creek, in the fields, or in the forest.

“We will be 99.9% outdoors," says camp leader Elizabeth Doshi. “In the beginning of the week we’ll do some exploring and naming the spaces we find in the woods and fields. In each new space there will be specific activities, and we’ll also find out about sitting in silence for a few moments, just listening.” Crafts, play and daily story-time will all revolve around the theme for the week, What the Woods Can Tell Me. “We’ll see what’s out there,” says Ms. Doshi. “We’ll use the materials we discover in our crafts and in our play.” Each day will be built around a predictable and comforting rhythm, just right for young children, including seasonal circle time, exploration, quiet time and stories in the woods, craft, play, and movement.

Elizabeth Doshi is Ashwood’s lower grades teacher. She has a master’s degree in Waldorf education from Antioch University and 14 years of Waldorf teaching and summer camp leadership.

If state or federal restrictions do not allow us to hold camp due to COVID-19, we will refund camp fees in full. Registration forms are available for download at: www.ashwoodwaldorf.org/summer-camp or by calling 207-236-8021. Please leave a detailed message and expect a reply within 24 hours.
