Annual Day of Giving Sets Record!

United Midcoast Charities’ annual Day of Giving has come and gone with spectacular results! On Saturday, December 10, dozens of local retailers and restaurants donated part of the day’s proceeds to support more than 50 agencies in Knox and Waldo counties. And shoppers turned out in record numbers throughout the Midcoast.

“This year’s Day Of Giving exceeded our wildest expectations,” said UMC President John Viehman, “and we’re extremely grateful to everyone who participated. Not only did we have a record number of participating businesses, but donations doubled from last year. It’s a terrific way for all of us to support more than 75 local businesses while also helping people in the community who are struggling to address their most basic needs of food, housing, health and safety, and economic security.”

“I support UMC because it’s all about food, housing, health & safety, and economic security,” said Nancy Leonard, owner of Leonard’s Clothing in Camden. “These are all very important things in a small community like ours. And I’ll continue each year to give to this truly wonderful cause.”

This year’s Day Of Giving was sponsored by Bangor Savings Bank, Allen Insurance & Financial, and Courier Newspapers/VillageSoup.
