BELFAST — The Belfast Co-op celebrated its 40th anniversary at Steamboat Landing Aug. 13, with food, music and fun for the celebrants. The event, which was free to attend, had several food trucks on hand to satiate cravings from the sweet to savory.  Musical performances included headliner the Ghost of Paul Revere, who had many people on their feet and dancing throughout their set. The all-female alternative band Sugarbush also performed at the event.

The Co-op, which has been serving Belfast since 1976, offers an array of locally sourced, organically produced foods and products.

With the number of member/owners standing at more than 3,900, the Co-op takes in close to $8 million in sales annually, according to its website

Though many things have changed over the last 40 years, including location, store updates, and membership numbers, one thing has remained untouched.

The Co-op’s motto remains the same as it was the first day of business.

“All are welcome,” is not simply a sign hung over the entrance, but an attitude that resides within.

The welcoming feeling was one shared at the 40th anniversary celebration, which managed to bring brightness to an otherwise overcast day.
