BELFAST — Winnifred Philbrook, 94, of Belfast, passed away very peacefully on Feb. 24, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Winnifred was born Nov. 23, 1922, in Searsport to Sidney and Vena York.

Winnifred worked at Hardwood Products in Guilford and later she operated Philbrook's Rooming House for many years after moving to Belfast in 1955. She was a compassionate caregiver for several long term residents there in their later years. Winnifred also assisted in the care of numerous other Belfast residents in their homes. She took great pride in this work and was loved by those she worked for.

Winnifred enjoyed yard sales, bowling, taking evening rides for ice cream and spending time with her family and friends. She definitely had a green thumb and could bring any tired indoor or outdoor plant back to life, blooming beautifully. She was a sweet and caring person, loved by all who knew her.

Winnifred was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Leslie H. Philbrook; her son-in-law, Edward G. Holland; her grandson, John E. Holland; her sisters, Madeline Harvey, Celia Landry and Junne Robertson; her brother, Wilbert York; and her half-brother, Stanley Whitney. She is survived by two children, Geraldine Holland and Dwaine Philbrook and his wife, Brenda; four grandchildren, Lesleann Holland, James Holland, Lauren Klausmeyer and Brian Philbrook; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Tall Pines, and especially her certified nursing assistants who all gave such compassionate care to our mother.

A graveside service will be held in May for family and friends and announced at a later time.

Services have been entrusted to the Riposta Funeral Home.
