At the Bank of Maine Ice Vault in Hallowell Thursday, the Windjammers went back to its winning ways after suffering a shocking defeat to the hands of Waterville.

In the first period, Nick Tassoni scored a power play goal off a Perrin Ganter assist, while in the second period, Cameron Christie scored off an assist from Chase Matteo and Will Davee.

In the third period, the Windjammers made sure to seal off the victory by netting three goals. The first came from Simon Lydon (assisted by Kieran Lydon and Luke Noonan), followed by Jonah Cameron (Noonan assist) and Joshiah Simko (Thomas Greibel assist).

“[It was a] good team effort [Thursday],” head coach Karl Enroth said of the victory. “Offensively, we had five different goal scorers and the defense did not allow a goal. The players bounced back game after the previous loss on Tuesday and with several key players unable to play [last night] the team responded to the challenge playing a hard nose style of hockey with discipline and structure to the team game.”

In total, Camden Hills had 36 shots (14 in the first, 13 in the second and nine in the third) on goal, Gardiner had 17 shots (three in the first, eight in the second and six in the third) on goal.

Working the goalie net for Camden Hills was Zach Hand who had 17 saves, while Mike Poirier had 31 saves for Gardiner.

Camden Hills was 1-for-2 on power play opportunities, while Gardiner was 0-for-2.

Both team had two minor penalties which resulted in four minutes in the penalty box for each team.

Dec. 16: Waterville 6, Camden Hills 0

At Colby College’s Alfond Area in Waterville, the Windjammers, riding a three game win streak to open the season, was handed a stunning loss against Waterville.

In the first period, Waterville’s Dalton Henderson netted two power play goals and was assisted by Nick Denis and Andrew Roderigue on the first goal and Justin Wentworth on the second.

In the second period, Jackson Aldrich scored on another power play goal off a Roderigue assist, while Denis (Michael Oliveria assist) and Oliveria (Matt Joliceouer, Denis assists) added to the lead.

In the final period, Zach Smith netted an unassisted goal to seal off the Waterville victory.

“We just never got in-sync,” Enroth said of the loss. “It started with some really undisciplined penalties early in the game, one penalty resulting in a Waterville 7 minute power play. Waterville is too good to be playing shorthanded for that long and they took advantage of the situation. They gained a lot of momentum from the lengthy power play time and we were unable to get into a good flow until parts of the third period. Hopefully we can learn from this loss and play better on Thursday.”

Camden Hills had 17 shots (eight in the first, three in the second and six in the third) on the goal, while Waterville managed 20 shots (nine in the first, seven in the second and four in the third) on the net.

In the goalie net, Jet Magri had 14 saves for Camden Hills, while Waterville’s Nathan Pinette saved 17 shots.

The Windjammers had four minor penalties and one major penalty for a total of 13 minutes in the penalty box, while Waterville had four minor penalties for a total of eight minutes in the box.

Camden Hills was 0-for-4 on power play opportunities, while Waterville was 3-for-5.
