Windjammers football ready to begin new chapter

ROCKPORT — The Camden Hills football program made national headlines when the 2015 season was abruptly cancelled four games into the 2015 season.

To forfeit even one contest means a program loses its varsity-level status, per state athletic association rules.

During the off-season, the school administration, school board, parents and members of the Five Town Football youth football organization worked hard to get football on its feet again, according to Suzanne Johndro, Vice President of Public Relations for the Camden Hills football booster club.

According to Johndro, the school board put together an Ad Hoc committee to set forth guidelines. The Athletic Director, Steve Alex, hired coach Archie Stalcup, an award winning high school and college coach with over 50 years experience, while the parents have pulled together to activate the booster program organizing parties, community service projects and fundraising.

Johndro notes that the team mostly consists of freshman and sophomore players, although the majority of the roster has been playing youth football and do not lack skill nor talent.

The team is looking forward to a successful season, per Johndro, and will open the 2016 season on Saturday, Aug. 27 with a 1 p.m. home game against Telstar and invites the community to come celebrate the start of a new chapter in program history.
