NORTHPORT — Waldo County Dispatch received a call at roughly 5 a.m., Monday, June 22, to report Wentworth Family Grocery had been burglarized during the overnight hours, according to a press release from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Merl Reed responded to the scene, accompanied by detectives Dale Brown and Gerry Lincoln. Detective Dale Brown has been assigned as lead investigator in the case.

Additionally, members of the Maine State Evidence Recovery Team were called to assist with processing the scene.

“[The state police] have state of the art equipment that [the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office] don’t have access to,” Trafton said.

The family owned store, located in Northport, was purchased in 2007, but a new facility was built and opened in 2010. The family owns another location in Brooks, which opened its doors in 1982.

It was closed for the duration of business June 22, while the scene was processed. As of Thursday, June 25, the burglary is “still under active investigation,” according to Sheriff Jeffrey Trafton.

Trafton said authorities are releasing “very little,” about the case while the investigation continues.

Additional information will be added as updates are made available.
