Weekend Spotlight: Block Parties, Blues Fest, Highland Games and Brewery Opening

It’s a chock-a-block kind of weekend with Rockland heating up over blues, brews and BBQs and just a jaunt up the road, The Maine Highland Games are celebrating Celtic pride!

North Atlantic Blues Festival

Saturday July 15 and Sunday, July 16 — Rockland

Even if you don’t have tickets to The North Atlantic Blues Festival, come Saturday night, the town will galvanize with a lineup of blues acts all over Rockland.  You don’t need tickets or a wristband for many of the downtown participating clubs and restaurants featuring many of the top regional blues performers for the official Club Crawl (but there might be a cover charge.) Blues BBQ Block Party

Friday, July 14 — Rockland

The first of its kind, a free North End Block Party is kicking off at Home Kitchen, a Rockland restaurant from 5 to 10 p.m. It's a Blues barbeque and outdoor party for the whole ommunity, which will feature live music from the The Midnight Riders. For those who would want a beer garden with tasty local brews and a variety of Home Kitchen style BBQ meal options.Possible additional food vendors & trucks & other vendors to be announced.

Rock Harbor Brewery Opening

Friday, July 14 through Sunday, July 16 — Rockland

Celebrating Rock Harbor Brewery’s new facility and taproom on 5 Payne Avenue in Rockland, a three-day Grand Opening is happening with live music, Rock Harbor Brews and wood-grilled foods from Blaze food truck. You'll see how they brew beer and you'll be welcomed into the new tasting room. They will be open 3 to 9 p.m. on Friday, 12 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 12 to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Adult Shake Party at Lulu’s

Saturday, July 15 — Rockland

Once again The Midnight Riders are going to be part of another big 'ole street party on Oak Street at Lulu's Ice Cream & Gelato They’ll be serving food from 8 p.m. until 12 a.m. with their infamous boozy Lulu’s Milkshakes, along with grass-fed burgers, great beer and more by FOG Bar! Come dance the night away at one of the best yearly parties in town.

Maine Celtic Celebration

Friday, July 14 through Sunday, July 16 — Belfast

Grab your kilts and head up to the Belfast Commons for a weekend of traditional Highland Heavy Games (The Caber Toss, Open Stone Put, Heavy Weight Throw). It’s like the Olympics but in Celtic cultural form and tradition. Then there’s the unforgettable Cheese Roll and Cheese Chasers, the beautiful music of Kirkin’ o’ the Tartans, and naturally, a kilt competition, amongst many more things to do and see for the whole family. Friday kicks off around 5 p.m. until 9ish. Saturday starts at 10 a.m. and wraps up with fireworks around 9:15pm.
