Warren elects Peabody, Luce to Board of Selectmen, approves school budget, state bond referendum

    WARREN — The town of Warren reported a total of 184 voters turning out to the polls Tuesday, a hot, sweltering day across the Midcoast.

    The State Bond issue was passed by a vote of 96 to 87.

    On the Warren Board of Selectmen, Roger Peabody won seat #1 (three-year term) with 160 votes, and Wayne Luce won seat #2 (three-year term) with 150 votes.

    For the openings on he RSU/SAD 40 School Board, Dennis Wooster was voted in to fill the open three-year term seat with 152 votes, and Curt Andrick was elected to fill the remainder of an open three-year term seat that expires in 2019, garnering 21 votes.

    Three three-year term seats were filled by the voters Tuesday night, electing Robert Graham to fill Seat #1 (141 votes), John Cooke to fill Seat #4 (150 votes) and Mark Anderson to fill Seat #5 (157 votes). All three seats expire in 2020.

    Both questions pertaining to the RSU 40 Budget Validation referendum passed, with Question 1 garnering 109 in favor and 75 against; and Question 2 garnering 142 in favor and 41 against.

    On Tuesday, June 20 at 7 p.m., the town will convene it’s annual town meeting to complete the Town Warrant, which includes 35 articles to be decided on the floor. The town meeting will be held at Warren Community School, 117 Eastern Road.

    On the Town Warrant, the rules governing the catching, as well as he sale of surplus alewives will come before voters, and they will also be asked to approve the town’s budget lines, adopt changes to the town’s Shoreland Zoning Ordinance, to authorize the selectmen to choose their solid waste disposal facility and to vote to prohibit commercial marijuana activities.

    The marijuana question, Article 36, reads: “To see if the Town will vote to prohibit commercial marijuana activities to include but not limit to marijuana processing facilities, testing facilities, cultivation facilities, retail businesses and social clubs.”
