Waldoboro — Waldoboro Police Chief Bill Labombarde announced in a press release that on Nov. 17 at approximately 1:00 p.m., Waldoboro Police and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Kevin S. King, 53, of Waldoboro, at his residence at 580 Bremen Road. King’s arrest followed an on-going criminal investigation from two earlier incidents at a doctor’s office in Waldoboro regarding his erratic behavior in the lobby.

A criminal records check was conducted indicating King had an extensive criminal history with numerous felony drug, weapons, alcohol and traffic related incidents dating back as far as 1980.

Police also learned that King is currently on $30,000 bond out of Juniper, Fla. for grand theft and money laundering in excess of $100,000. Those charges state that King is alleged to have stolen 490 African Krugerrands gold coins, valued at over $600,000. Waldoboro Police also received information that King was in possession of several firearms and ammunition at his residence. King is a convicted felon and is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms.

Waldoboro Police, assisted by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, searched King’s residence Nov. 17 and seized two hand guns, a shot gun, an AR-15 assault rifle, as well as a large cache of ammunition, approximately four grams of heroin, prescription drugs, a digital scale and other drug related paraphernalia. Police also seized five Krugerrands gold coins allegedly taken from Juniper, Fla. King was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, illegal possession of scheduled drugs, and receiving stolen property.

King was transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail where bail was set at $25,000 cash. King’s bond was later revoked by the State of Florida because of his new criminal conduct.

Waldoboro Police executed another search at King’s residence Nov, 20 with the assistance of the Maine State Police K-9 Unit. During that search, police located two additional firearms, approximately 150-200 of the African Krugerrands gold coins, valued at approximately $200,000 and a sealed box containing five, 100 ounce silver bars valued at approximately $10,000, hidden under a false floor in the basement, according to Labombarde.

The Juniper Police Department is currently making arraignments to retrieve the gold coins and precious metal seized during the execution of the warrants and to extradite King back to Florida, said Labombarde.

The Waldoboro Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, Juniper Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with any information is urged to contact Officer Larry Hesseltine or Chief Bill Labombarde at 207- 832-4500 or 207- 832-5369.
