WALDOBORO — A 45-year-old Waldoboro man was arrested March 17 at approximately 10:00 p.m., after Waldoboro Police responded to a residence on Friendship Road for an assault in progress.

Virgil W. Cray Sr. was placed under arrest and transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail, according to a news release from Waldoboro Police Chief William Labombarde.

When officers arrived at the scene they observed several injuries on the victim that were consistent with an assault.

The victim told the officers that about 30 minutes prior to the assault, an unknown man came to his house and he refused to let him enter. About 30 minutes later, the man returned a second time with two other men and they forced their way into the residence.

He said that the men knocked him to the floor and began punching and kicking him repeatedly.

The victim was on the phone with Lincoln County Communications Center at the time of the assault.

According to Labombarde, the identity of the two other men and reason for the assault are not known at this time.

This incident is currently under investigation and additional arrests are anticipated, he said in the news release.
