Deputy Cassandra McDonald responded to a report an accident on Pond Road in Burnham. Waldo County Dispatch received a report from a nurse on duty at Sebasticook Valley Hospital stating that a male had been admitted to the hospital with injuries from an automobile accident and appeared to be intoxicated. According to a police report, it appeared the vehicle, a 1999 Saab, drove “straight of the road,” and into a ditch, where it first struck the guide wires of a telephone pole, then continued, hit a dirt embankment and went airborne. The vehicle then struck a tree, reportedly halfway up, breaking it, before continuing into the woods where it ultimately came to rest. The male who had been admitted to the hospital was ejected from the vehicle via the driver side window.

The man suffered a broken hip and facial fractures. He was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center for surgery, and where he was also given a blood alcohol test.
