BELFAST — The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office reported the following activity April 21 - May 2. An arrest or summons does not imply guilt.

    April 24

Alan F. Woodruff, 82, of Searsmont, was issued a summons for theft by unauthorized taking or transfer on Morgan Lane in Searsmont.

    April 26

Deputy David Wight responded to the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Augusta Road in Belmont where a vehicle backing out of the parking area of a local business struck a legally parked vehicle. The driver and passenger of the first vehicle, a 2005 Hyundai, were uninjured. The operator of the other vehicle, a 2011 Chevrolet, was also uninjured. Both vehicles sustained minor damage.

    April 27

Deputy David Wight responded to the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Veterans Highway in Brooks where a driver attempting to pass another vehicle was forced off the road by oncoming traffic. The driver of a 2000 Volkswagen was traveling north when it attempted to pass the other vehicle via the northbound lane.

The driver was forced off the road in order to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway and became airborne after striking a ditch, hitting and severing a CMP guy-wire and utility pole. The vehicle then struck the ground just before a steep hill, causing it to go airborne a second time before rolling onto the driver side and coming to rest. The driver sustained possible injury and was issued a summons for operating left while passing so as to interfere with an approaching vehicle. The driver of the vehicle the VW was attempting to pass and the driver of the oncoming vehicle were witnesses to the crash and neither of their vehicles was physically involved in the crash.
