Sun-glare and fog contribute to crashes

    BELFAST — The Waldo County Sheriff's Department reported the following activity Sept. 15-27. An arrest or summons does not imply guilt.

    Sept. 3 (late entry)

    Heather Dunphy, 27, of Liberty, was issued a summons for negotiating a worthless instrument at Liberty General stemming from an incident June 16.

    Sept. 11 (late entries)

    Leonard E. Maker Jr., 43, of Searsmont, was issued a summons for tampering with a witness stemming from an incident Aug. 16.

    Timothy G. Daley Jr., 32, of Frankfort, was arrested for tampering with a witness, stemming from an incident Aug. 16.

    Sept. 15

    Deputy Darrin Moody responded to the scene of a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Morgan Pitch Road and Veterans Highway in Brooks where the operator of one vehicle did not see the vehicle ahead had stopped due to sun-glare obscuring the driver's vision. Both vehicles were towed. There were no injuries.

    A Sullivan's Waste Disposal vehicle was issued a citation for an inspection sticker violation.

    A juvenile from Milton, Mass., was issued a summons for speeding 37 mph in a 25 mph one on Main Street in Unity.

    Joshua T. Minnich, 21, of Mohnton, Pa., was issued a summons for speeding 42 mph in a 25 mph zone on Quaker Hill Road in Unity.

    Dylan L. Malia, 18, of New Gloucester, was issued a summons for speeding 35 mph in a 25 mph zone on Quaker Hill Road in Unity.

    Sept. 16

    Claire E. Turner, 23, of Monroe, was issued an inspection sticker violation.

    Deputy Jordan Tozier responded to the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Reynolds Road in Thorndike where the operator of a 2005 Suzuki motorcycle was reportedly traveling too closely to the right side of the road, causing the operator to lose control on the sandy shoulder. After crossing the center line the operator struck a wire fence, resulting in the operator being thrown from the motorcycle, leading to incapacitating injuries. The operator, who was wearing a helmet, suffered burns and was transported for medical attention.

    Sept. 17

    David A Roche, 27, of Brooks, was issued summonses for operating a defective vehicle on Route 137 in Knox, a tinted window violation, excessive exhaust noise and an inadequate taillight.

    Sarah Higgins, 28, of Liberty, was issued a summons for theft at Morrill General stemming from an incident Sept. 1.

    Gary L. Ensworth, 54, of Blue Hill, was issued a summons for operating after suspension on Main Street in Unity.

    Sept. 18

    A Liberty juvenile was issued a summons for failure to register a motor vehicle.

    Jonathan Ward, 36, of Belfast, was issued a summons for home repair fraud stemming from an incident June 29.

    Sept. 19

    Arthur E. William, 21, of Brooks, was arrested for domestic violence stalking and violating conditions of release.

    Deputy Cody Laite responded to the scene of a two-vehicle accident on Augusta Road in Belmont where the operator of one vehicle had stopped at a stop sign on Morrill road, while waiting to turn onto Augusta Road. The driver reported looking both ways, but failed to see an oncoming car due to sun-glare. The oncoming driver reportedly tried to avoid the collision, but was unsuccessful. The first vehicle was towed, while the second was operable. There were no injuries.

    Bradley Williams, 58, of Belfast, was arrested for tampering with a witness (two counts), violating a protection from abuse order (two counts), stemming from incidents Sept. 18 in Lincolnville.

    Sept. 20

    Christopher Patten, 43, of Northport, was arrested for failure to appear for charges of negotiating a worthless instrument.

    Tabbatha Hall, 24, of Searsmont, was issued summonses for failure to report an accident by quickest means and leaving the scene of a property damage accident on Route 3 in Morrill.

    Sept. 21

    Shawn D. Conway, 20, of Mullica Hill, N.J., was issued a summons for speeding 40 mph in a 25 mph zone on Quaker Hill Road in Unity.

    Gabriella Digiacomo, 20, of Croydon, N.H., was issued a summons for speeding 39 mph in a 25 mph zone on Main Street in Unity.

    Sept. 22

    Deputy Jordan Tozier responded to the scene of single-vehicle accident on North Palermo Road in Palermo where the operator reportedly failed to navigate a mild turn due to fog, causing the vehicle to exit the roadway onto an embankment for approximately 150 feet before hitting a utility pole and rolling over, coming to rest on the roof. The utility pole and guide wire were destroyed and the vehicle was towed. The driver was transported for medical attention for a concussion and bleeding from the head.

    Sept. 24

    William Mathieson, 33, of Montville, was arrested for failure to appear for a charge of operating under the influence.
