Waldo County Sheriff’s beat: Drowsy driving accidents, OUI, school zone speeding

    BELFAST — The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office reported the following activity March 27 - April 5. An arrest or summons does not imply guilt.

    March 27

    Deputy David Wight responded to the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Thompson Ridge Road in Searsport where an operator fell asleep at the wheel. The 2016 Toyota left the roadway and struck a tree head-on, leaving the driver with a likely broken nose. The driver was wearing a seatbelt and the airbag was deployed. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

    March 30

    Krystyl Robbins, 25, of Brooks, was issued summonses for attaching false plates, operating after suspension, and operating under the influence on Route 203 in Brooks.

    March 31

    Ryan Mitchell, 32, of Bucksport, was issued a summons for an inspection sticker violation on Route 1A in Frankfort.

    Michael Couturier, 20, of Montville, was arrested for violating conditions of release on Route 3 in Liberty.

    April 1

    Deputy Cassandra McDonald responded to the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Belfast Road in Knox where an operator fell asleep at the wheel. The 2001 Toyota went off the side of the road and struck a snowbank; it was towed from the scene. The operator, who was wearing a seatbelt, was uninjured in the crash.

    April 2

    Kathleen A. Woods, 34, of Camden, was issued a summons for speeding 31 mph in a 15 mph school zone on Hope Road in Lincolnville.

    Deputy Cassandra McDonald responded to the scene of a two-vehicle accident on Belfast Road in Freedom where a westbound vehicle slowed to a stop when two deer entered the roadway. A 2 axle, six-wheel truck weighing more than 26,000 pounds was traveling behind the vehicle, reportedly traveling too closely to the first vehicle and was unable to stop. The 2014 Subaru was rear-ended by the truck, sustaining disabling damage. It was towed from the scene. The driver of the Subaru and passenger were both wearing seatbelts and were uninjured. The truck sustained minor damage and the driver was uninjured.

    April 3

    Leslie R. Kristeller, 59, of Lincolnville, was issued a summons for speeding 42 mph in a 15 mph school one on Hope Road in Lincolnville.

    Deputy McDonald responded to the scene of a deer v. vehicle accident on Albion Road in Unity. The 2010 Toyota sustained functional damage and the driver was uninjured.

    Deputy McDonald responded to the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Johnson Flat Road in Burnham where a vehicle left the roadway after the driver swerved to avoid a deer. The 2010 Toyota struck trees, sustaining disabling damage. It was towed from the scene. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was uninjured.
