Waldo County law enforcement caution public after pair of suspected drug deaths

BELFAST — The Belfast Police Department and Waldo County Sheriff’s Office are warning the public about the potential that there is a particularly dangerous batch of drugs in the region, following the deaths of two men in their late thirties.

No other details about either of the men have been made available at this time.

Though law enforcement has not yet determined or learned the exact cause of death in either case, “there are strong indications that drug overdoses may be to blame,” according to a press release.

Both agencies are issuing warnings to the public about the potential of a “particularly potent supply of drugs in the area,” according to the release.

There is also a possibility that a local supply of drugs has been laced with other drugs, such as Fentanyl, which has been linked to overdoses nationwide.

Belfast Police and the Sheriff’s Office are working with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency in an effort to determine where the potentially tainted drugs came from.

The media report goes on to highlight increased drug use in Waldo County, in addition to a “drastic increase in overdoses statewide this year.”

Families and friends of those struggling with addiction are urged to seek help.

Law enforcement is asking anyone with information about the two deaths to contact Belfast Police at 207-338-2040.
