ROCKPORT – The District II Little League tournament for the 9-10 year old baseball had one game left to be played after last nights win for Camden-Rockport forced another game to decide who would move on to the State 9-10 tournament, it was a winner take all game.

After a slow start for both teams at the plate Waldo County put up four runs in the third and two in the fourth only to have Camden come back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Waldo lead to 6-4. The score would remain that way until the top of the sixth when Waldo broke open the game with three runs to make it 9-4 and good enough for Waldo County to capture the District II championship.

The 9-10 State Tournament will be held at the Clyde L. Sukeforth Memorial Field in Waldoboro. Waldo County will play their first Pool Play game against the District 6 winner Sunday, July 21 at 3 p.m. Pool Play will run from Saturday, July 20  through Wednesday, July 24 with the championship game scheduled for 5 p.m.

By the bottom of the fourth Waldo's pitcher Dylan Abbott was getting tired on the mound and no wonder with the heat as it was still brutaly hot and humid when the game started. Abbott had thrown 49 pitches and struck out eight batters when he started having a little control trouble and Camden took advantage of the walks to score their only runs in the game. Chris Kelley, who we had seen the night before for a few pitches to close out the game, came in from center field to toe the rubber for Waldo County and shut the door on Camden to secure the win.

Abbott and Kelley combined to allow four runs on four hits and seven walks while striking out 12. Both pitches were on the money with most of their pitches. They both throw hard and mostly strikes that should serve them well in the State tournament.

Sam Moody got the start for Camden and went 3 1/3 innings allowing five runs, three earned, on four hits and four walks while striking out five. Moody threw his 75 max pitches and was lifted for Aiden Schecter who came in and did a great job pitching 2 1/3 innings allowing four unearned runs on two hits and five walks while striking out four. Nicolas Tausek pitched 1/3 an inning to close out the sixth allowing one hit.

Hitting for Waldo County was Garrett Davis (single, double), Tanner Veilleux (run), Kolby Moore (2 runs), Abbott (single, double, 3 runs), Neal Kenney (single, run), Josn Miner (single, run), Kelley (single, run) and Steven Perkins (double).

For Camden-Rockport, Jeremy Fraser (single, run), Aiden Schecter (2 singles, run), Brandon Moulton (run), and Nicolas Tausek (single, run).

With the win Waldo County has now captured the 9-10 year old District II Championship, but also the 11-12 year old District II Championship to beheld in Augusta.
