VoXX: Voice of Twenty Seeks a Few Good Singers

Fri, 10/06/2017 - 3:45pm

Would you love to sing fine a cappella classical music from the Middle Ages to the 21st Century in beautiful venues? The Camden-based vocal ensemble VoXX: Voice of Twenty has started rehearsals for the group’s winter concert series, and a few more good voices are needed (all voice parts). If you’re looking to sing great music within a supportive and friendly vocal ensemble, please consider auditioning.

“We’re planning a wonderful winter program featuring themes of mercy and forgiveness,” said Music Director John Mehrmann. “The series will include selections from one of history’s most influential compositions, Palestrina’s Missa Papae Marcelli. Legend has it that Palestrina changed the course of musical history with this piece. We’re also working on great Renaissance works by Byrd, Josquin, Lassus, and Morales. Music by living composers, including by the almost mystical Arvo Pärt and the hauntingly mysterious American composer David Lang, is on the program as well.”

VoXX performs four or five concerts per season, and will be singing in some spectacular venues this winter, including the majestic Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul in Lewiston, Union Hall in Rockport, and the historic Phippsburg Congregational Church.

Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 7-9:30 at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 33 Chestnut Street, Camden. More information and a sign-up form are available at www.voiceoftwenty.com.
