Voting begins April 20 for the My Maine Sign contest

    For the past two weeks, the Maine Dept. of Transportation has been poring over approximately 2,000 safety related messages submitted to the My Maine Sign contest. The messages are designed to fit on highway message boards that are displayed throughout the state.
     
    The DOT  has selected 60 top messages that is says “are funny, smart and clever dealing with safety subjects such as distracted driving, speeding, tailgating, impairmenteven eating while driving.”
     
    Any of those 60 may appear on the highway signs in the future.

    Now it's time for the public to vote on their favorites. To cast a vote, visit mainedot.gov. The website is set up for "traffic light voting." Underneath each message is a:

    - Red light for "Don't like it"

    - Yellow light for "Like it"

    - Green light for "Love it!"

    Individuals can vote once daily between April 20 and 30. 

    Prizes to be awarded include passes to the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory, Gray Animal Park and to Maine State parks.
