Velma L. Beaupre, obituary

ROCKPORT - Velma Leighton Beaupre, 96, of Rockport, passed away peacefully on Aug. 18, 2016, at Windward Gardens in Camden. She was born Dec. 3, 1919, in Bar Harbor to Henry and Ethel (Young) Leighton.

Velma grew up in Bar Harbor and graduated from Bar Harbor High School. She married Claude Beaupre in May 1942. They moved to Portland and then Thomaston, where she worked for Sylvania for 13 years. She and Claude eventually settled in Rockport and opened a Maytag sales and service store in 1965. She semi-retired in 1980, but still worked part time at Oakland Seashore and Cabins.

Velma loved camping with friends and spending the winters in Florida. She enjoyed going to many fairs and shows with their antique washing machines. She was a member of the Maine Antique Power Association. She also enjoyed knitting and watching the boats out on the ocean.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Claude; her son, Stephen; and all of her siblings. She is survived by her son, Ronald Beaupre of Rockport; her daughter-in-law, Alana Beaupre of Warren; her granddaughters, Heather Fuller and her husband, Cliff, of Appleton, Kristie Beverage and her husband, Joel, of Jefferson, and Holly Beaupre of Warren; her grandson, Nicolas Beaupre of Warren; her great-granddaughters, Racquelle Beaupre and her fiancé, Brett Haney, of Warren, Carly Beverage of Jefferson, and Arabella Beaupre of Warren; her great-grandsons, Austin and James Beverage, both of Jefferson; her great-great-granddaughter, Ryleigh Beaupre of Warren; and her great-great-grandson, Dax Haney of Warren.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 23, at noon at Ledgelawn Cemetery in Bar Harbor.
