Vehicle defect leads to discovery of heroin, arrest

    BELFAST — An evening traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a Searsport man April 21, according to the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

    Jason Roberts, 36, first came to the attention of Sergeant Cody Laite and Detective Merle Reed due to a defect in the vehicle he was operating. 

    Laite stopped the vehicle on Lincolnville Avenue at roughly 10:30 p.m., according to a press release. 

    Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Roberts was in possession of approximately 12 grams of heroin, in addition to over $1,200 in cash, which was also seized by law enforcement. 

    Roberts was arrested and charged with unlawful trafficking in heroin. His bail has been set at $2,500.
