New York duo arrested July 26

UPDATED: Two apprehended in Cherryfield homicide

    CHERRYFIELD — State Police said on July 26 that two arrests have been made in conjunction with the death of Sally Shaw, 55, whose body was found along Route 193 in Cherryfield in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 19. According to Maine State Police Spokesman Steve McCausland, Shaw’s body was discovered by a passing motorist around dawn. State Police troopers and detectives were on the scene until mid-afternoon, and subsequently ruled Shaw’s death a homicide. It was only after conducting an autopsy involving the State Police DNA lab that police were able to positively identify Shaw.

     In a statement issued July 26, McCausland said a man and woman from New York City were arrested in New York and charged in connection with the homicide last week in Cherryfield. The duo being held on fugitive from justice charges are 37-year-old Carine Reeves and 19-year-old Quaneysha Greeley.  They were arrested by New York City Police on 141st Street in the Laurelton section of Queens about 8:00 a.m. Both will be charged with murder when they are brought back to Maine. They are charged in connection with the death of 55-year-old Sally Shaw, whose body was found alongside Route 193 in Cherryfield Wednesday, July 19. The Maine Attorney General’s Office authorized murder charges against the two earlier this week and four State Police detectives drove to New York early Tuesday morning to coordinate the arrests with authorities in New York, according to a statement issued by Maine State Police Spokesman Steve McCausland. Greeley is a former Lewiston resident. The two are being held at Queen’s Central Booking, and will make their first court appearance Thursday, July 27 at the Queen’s County Criminal Courthouse.

    UPDATE:

    The death of the woman found in Cherryfield has been ruled a homicide, according to a statement from McCausland, issued shortly before 5:00 p.m. July 19. The unidentified woman’s body has been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta for autopsy and identification. The autopsy is likely to take place Thursday morning. 

     A team of State Police detectives, troopers and evidence technicians were at the site where the woman’s body was found all day Wednesday, McCausland said. Additionally, police have seized a 2017 black Chevrolet Impala, involved in a crash at the intersection of Routes 9 and 193, and believe the car is connected to the woman. The crash took place Tuesday evening. The body was found by a passing motorist about 5:30 am today. The scene of the crash, and the site where the woman’s remains were found are about 15 miles apart.

    UPDATE: 

    State Police continue to investigating the homicide of a middle aged woman found dead yesterday in Cherryfield. An autopsy was completed Thursday, July 20 at the State Medical Examiner's Office, but as of 3:30 p.m. July 20, the cause of death. Work continues to establish a positive identification for the woman, and the State Police DNA lab is involved in the effort to determine her identity. State Police have received several calls from the public in the past 24 hours, and they continue to seek the assistance of the public. Detectives are looking for additional information from anyone who who drove by the crash site at the intersection of Routes 9 and 193 on Tuesday evening. The 2017 black Chevrolet Impala involved in that crash is connected to the victim, and is being transported to the State Police crime lab in Augusta to be analyzed.

    Detectives are asking anyone who traveled in the area Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning who saw anything along Routes 9 or 193 that might be related to the investigation to call the State Police in Bangor at 207-973-3700.
