ROCKLAND — According to Knox County Emergency Management Director Ray Sisk, today’s weather, which includes a winter weather advisory and gale warning for Penobscot Bay, earlier in the day forced the cancellation of the middle ferries to and from Vinalhaven.

In an email alert Monday at 12:19 p.m., the state Department of Transportation announced the cancellation of the 12:30 p.m. trip from North Haven to Rockland and the 2:05 p.m. departure from Rockland to North Haven, both due to weather/high winds. Also the 3:45 p.m. trip from North Haven to Rockland and the 5:15 p.m. departure from Rockland to North Haven have been canceled.

The 2:45 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. ferries to and from Vinalhaven are canceled as well.

For updates about the afternoon boats, travelers are urged to contact the terminal.
