UPDATED: Blizzard warning in effect Monday to Wednesday morning, 18-24 inches of snow possible

GRAY — Less than 24 hours after the Saturday snowstorm that dropped 8-10 inches of snow, or more, on the Midcoast and just an hour after posting a winter storm warning, the National Weather Service has upgraded its forecast to a blizzard warning that could bring even more snow and winds with it.

The National Weather Service has placed all of coastal Maine under a blizzard warning, which is in effect from 10 p.m. Jan. 26 to 4 a.m. Jan. 28. Snow will begin early Tuesday in the Midcoast, with heavy snow and gusty winds during the day Tuesday.

Snow covered roads and low visibilities will lead to dangerous travel conditions, while increasing winds along the coast will bring a period of near-blizzard and whiteout conditions.

“Winds will be strong on or near the coast, producing a period of blizzard conditions. In addition, this storm will produce very high wave action as well, with a storm surge leading to coastal flooding an erosion,” said the National Weather Service in Gray.
