Rockport firefighters and Rockport and Camden police responded to a single-car crash on Meadow Street in Rockport tonight just after 7:30 p.m. While the driver was able to exit the car, firefighters had to extricate the passenger with the Jaws of Life.

Police said Tuesday, March 13, that Josh Peaslee, 31, of Appleton, was transported via LifeFlight the night before from Pen Bay Medical Center to Eastern Maine Medical Center, in Bangor, with serious injuries.

The driver, John Dodge, 33, of Rockport, was arrested and charged with OUI. He was transported to the Knox County Jail in Rockland.

Dodge had suffered no injuries at the cash, police said.

“Speed and alcohol are contributing factors in the accident,” said Camden-Rockport Police Chief Randy Gagne, on March 13.

The crash remains under investigation by Rockport Police Office Jacob Powers and Camden Sgt. Dan Brown.

Rockport Fire Chief Jason Peasley said 21 firefighters responded, and a crew cut the roof off the car, as well as a door, and then used a ram to push the door back toward a tree so that Peaslee could be rescued from the passenger door on the driver’s side of the car.

A Waldo County Sheriff’s Office deputy trained in accident scene reconstruction was at the Meadow Street site, with firefighters, to reconstruct what happened. The crash happened between the intersection of South Street and Route 90, as the car went off the road into a ditch and the trees.

More details will be added when they become available.
