UNION — A Union resident driving along Route 17 in Union struck a utility pole this afternoon, Sept. 8, and was transported to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport for observation. According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, it is believed that she suffered no injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office said Catherine Keiran, 57, was traveling west in her 2008 Hyundai near the intersection of Route 131 (Appleton Road) when she apparently fainted.

“It is believed that due to a medical condition, Ms. Keiran blacked out and went off the road in front of Hammond Tractor, striking a utility pole,” said the Sheriff’s Office, in a news release. “Electricity is still out in the immediate area at this time.”

The release was sent at 3:23 p.m.

Union Ambulance responded and took Keiran to the hospital. There were no passengers in the car with her.
