    Marcus King Band

Surprising as it seems, Marcus King is what I like to refer to as a deja vu artist. If you don’t end his latest disc upon first listen in thinking to yourself, ‘Wow, I grew up on this stuff!’ I would be more than surprised. At 20, Marcus has the chops and riffs of an artist three times his age. His guitar playing makes me think Duane Allman is in the room. I love the way his melodies just roll out and leave me wanting the next song.

Mind you, I grew up on Beatles, Iron Butterfly, Steppenwolf and Zeppelin, but then went on to icons Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Three Dog Night, and of course Jerry and the Grateful Dead. Maturing to such sounds opened my eyes well beyond the psychedelic years. I digress, this CD shows Marcus King and his band play well beyond their years. It resonates of deeply intricate guitar and even has the semblance of blues and funk. Its tight and produced well by Warren Haynes, also a favorite of mine.

If you listen much to this disc you may hear the Tower of Power influence and even feel as though the keyboards are as spicy as some early Stevie Wonder’s Superstition.

Listen to his latest, the third and self-titled CD from the Marcus King Band and write me. I hope it drives you to the point of wanting more as there are two other CDs by Marcus and his band, both just as awesome. I want to hear your take and give me a couple of references of your own stuff. This info is not to drone on about music but to listen to it. Find new stuff and listen.
